Now desperate, I found two newer used Ryan Verticutters. |
Yes, that is me with our original Verticutter, it died. It was so old when I called Ryan Equipment looking for parts, the gentlemen said he worked there for 30 years and had never seen one.
|
Then we Verticutt this soccer field with Bermuda grass, and the home lawn below. Just perfect for Bermuda grasses. |
Then we found this never machine was not designed for St Augustine grasses. It just ripped out the grass. |
Then I built Verticutter above then later added a winch to raise and lower the cutting unit. |
Make an appointment now for the fall Verticutting season and save $50.

Over the last 30 years, we have strived to improve the quality of the lawns we cut. In these 30 years we have seen so many changes, the internet, next Bitcoin and Blockchain Technology will change our lives. Soon I will build a robot to Verticutt, then just sit in the shade with my smartphone and watch?Ok, maybe not yet!
But then what has changed; the timing of lawn fertilizing, here in Pinellas County. Now we know our government is always striving to improve our lives?
Back in 2011, our great leaders decided that:
" Fertilizers containing nitrogen or phosphorus CANNOT: • Be applied during the rainy season (June 1 through September 30) • Be applied within 10 feet of a body of water • Be applied if the National Weather Service forecasts heavy rains to occur within 24 hours in Pinellas County • Be applied to impervious surfaces, such as roads, driveways and sidewalks AND overcast must be swept up immediately Landscape Maintenance MUST INCLUDE: • Keeping grass clippings, leaves, and other yard waste out of the streets, driveways, sidewalks, stormdrains, and surface waters • Commercial landscape staff must be trained in county-approved Best Management Practices for mowing, trimming, and landscape debris management by July 18, 2011. Pinellas County vehicle decal required on all landscape service vehicles. • Commercial fertilizer applicators must be state-certified in Green Industry Best Management Practices and licensed (commercial fertilizer applicator License) through State of Florida FDACS by January 19, 2011 according to the Pinellas County fertilizer Ordinance. Pinellas County vehicle decal required on all fertilizer application service vehicles.
Now, what has changed?
The Commerical fertilizer applicators have just boosted up the use of fertilizer applications in what they call the non-rainy season. The result, lawns that the growth normally slowed down November thru March, now grow twice as fast. This, of course, makes Verticutting more important.
The result:
- More grass clippings, leaves, and other yard waste out in the streets, driveways, sidewalks, stormdrains, and surface waters.
- Sadly, the commercial landscape staff they trained in county-approved Best Management Practices for mowing, trimming, and landscape debris management, still mow without guards on mowers, blowing the grass and debris into the streets.
- WHAT has changed since THE NEW LAW; there is actually grass and debris in the gutters and streets all year long, instead of mostly in the Summer months.
- Many 'commerical landscape staff 'just blow the grass and debris into the drains and roadways.
- Many homeowners when mowing just leave the debris in the streets after mowing.
Our goal is to improve your lawn:
- Thin out the matting that makes mowing so difficult.
- Verticutt in two directions where possible.
- Verticutting also helps remove thatch ( thatch develops naturally in all grasses) thatch is not the result of leaving grass clippings.
